How did you decide to become a therapist?
I grew up with a deep understanding of personal pain. I was fortunate enough to have people help me heal those wounds. With this I was able to develop a sense of freedom, joy and wholeness that I had never known before. I realized I wanted to provide this service to others.
What kinds of experiences make you effective in your work?
My love of people and interest in learning about them continually refines my ability to listen deeply. The practices of meditation and martial arts have helped me be present, flexible and creative. Experience with a wide variety of clients has taught me the importance of creating and maintaining trust.
Can you tell me more about Photography Therapy?
In this form of therapy, we explore issues not only through words, but also through images. Clients photograph subjects and situations that have special meaning. They may represent something that is unresolved, something they long for or something that is not fully understood. The beauty of this approach is that it allows our imagination and creativity to connect with places inside that do not welcome change, risk and growth. Taking these kinds of photos and exploring them together enhances self-awareness and promotes the possibility for new ways of being.
Do you use other approaches in your work with clients?
Along with photography therapy I use a combination of approaches including Gestalt therapy, hypnotherapy, meditation, poetry therapy, teaching stories, dreamwork and journal work. I base my approach to therapy on the specific needs of each individual. I treat every client with respect, honesty and care.
